Wu Qian was born in Shanghai in 1984 and began her training at the Shanghai Conservatoire of Music and at the age of eleven at the Menuhin School. While still only 15 Qian performed Mozart's Piano Concerto (K.449) in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and later at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Switzerland. She recently played the Saint-Säens Piano Concerto No.2 with the Philharmonia Orchestra in St John's, Smith Square and a concert at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, the Purcell Room and a third solo Wigmore Hall recital.
