Mother Courage was first performed in Britain in 1955 at the Queens Hall Barnstaple as part of the Taw and Torridge Festival, a direct ancestor of the North Devon Festival. The part of Mother Courage was played by Joan Littlewood with her Theatre Workshop Company. Fifty years on local people of all ages join together to create to create a memorable outdoor production of this classic anti-war play.
